What We Do
We offer professional instruction and guided experiences on rock, ice, trail, and anywhere we connect with nature. Hiring us funds programming for groups and individuals who have historically encountered barriers to realizing their potential outside.
We fundraise and partner with mission-aligned organizations to offer free and low-cost programming to groups and individuals. Any profit generated by our traditional guide service also supports these programs.
We offer authentic and welcoming affinity spaces to reduce barriers to the outdoors. We recruit and hire guides who represent the diverse communities we serve and provide our guides with training on creating inclusive spaces.
While our primary services take place around the Shawangunk Ridge — near New Paltz, NY — we lead experiences across the Northeast.
LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
At rise outside, we acknowledge that we work and recreate on the stolen lands of the munsee lenape, Delaware, and Haudenosaunee people.
We seek to respect the original stewards of these lands and prioritize the creation of opportunities for local indigenous communities.

A message from our ExecuTIVE DireCTOR Marian may perez (they/them)
“we are a collective of humans who see the potential of progressive change in our outdoor communities. too long have we been comfortable with how things are and it’s time to show up for normalizing diversity in the outdoors. supporting rise outside gives folks who have similar intersectional identites like mine the opportunity to be their true selves with nature. we all deserve quality mentorship and to be seen and heard just the way we are, just the way nature accepts us.”
What we believe
We all deserve opportunities to learn, practice, teach and thrive in outdoor communities that are just, diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
